ROUTE 18 SEWAGE PROJECT GROUNDBREAKING CEREMONY

A Groundbreaking ceremony for the Canton-Chartiers Townships Joint Route 18 Sewage Extension Project was held November 4th, 2011. This project will bring public sewage to nearly 300 households currently served by individual on-lot systems, more than half of which are failing causing ground water and stream pollution.

The estimated $5 million dollar project is funded by more than $3.5 million dollars in grants, due to local, state and federal government efforts and cooperation. The H2O grant program, Army Corps of Engineers 313 program funds and Local Share Account funds from the Meadows Casino all contributed to the project.

This project will not only help bring safer and healthier living conditions to the residents of both Townships, it will also help the environment and create jobs.

Collector Line construction is tentatively scheduled to begin in the Malone Ridge area of Canton Township on November 14th with Interceptor line installation to begin in early December.

Notifications of construction have been sent by mail to residents in the affected areas of both Townships.
